Ralph J. Stagge passed away at home surrounded by his family on May 18, 2022. He was born August 14, 1925 in Ogden, Utah to Louis Abraham Stagge and Lura Minnie Parker Stagge. He graduated from Ogden High School.
Ralph enlisted in the Navy in July of 1943, at age 17 and was discharged in April 1946. He was a fireman on a weather patrol boat and served on two different transport ships. He always said the best thing he ever did was join the Navy.
He married Emma Lou Gamble on Dec. 27, 1946 in Ogden and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married 65 years before her passing in 2012.
He played baseball in high school and 4 years after leaving the Navy. He umpired softball for high school and college games from 1955 to 1983. He coached his son Dan’s “Little Yankees” baseball team for 6 years. He was on various bowling teams for over 60 years with a high average of 193 and his best game was 279. He loved golfing and got “a hole in one.” He also enjoyed working in his yard, doing crossword and picture puzzles. He loved traveling, some of his favorite places were China and New Zealand. People in China thought he was Ronald Reagan.
Ralph worked for 45 years as a car inspector for the O U R & D and U P railroads. He was the local chairman of the Railroad Union for 30 years; secretary and treasure of “Jr. Old Timers” for many years and involved in the Activities Committee for the Railroad Credit Union for 25 years.
Ralph is survived by his son Dan (Babette) Stagge of North Ogden, daughter Margo (Keith) Loftus of Clovis, CA; grandchildren Jerrod, Dustin, Rachelle, Cole and Sasha; great-grandchildren Samantha, Nathan, Emma, Jacob, Dallin, Bradley, Whitney, McKay, Logan, Tyler, Lucy, Daxton, Jerzee, Liam, Rex, Wyatt and Asher; great-great- grandchildren Maxwell and Conrad.
He was preceded in death by his wife Emma Lou; his parents; sister Velda Stagge and brothers Marvin Louis, Delbert Earl and Floyd and his grandson Troy Loftus.
