Ralph Francis Tompkins, 86, of Englewood, Florida and Seaside Heights, New Jersey died peacefully at home with his family on Wednesday, June 6, 2012. He was born and raised in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Ralph served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific from 1943-1946. He received a BS degree in Textile Engineering from South Eastern Massachusetts Technical Institute, UMass Dartmouth in 1951. Ralph began his career at Chicopee Manufacturing Subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson in Milltown, NJ.
He oversaw the construction and operations of Chicopee Plant in Benson, North Carolina and was plant manager from 1968-1974. He was the plant manager of Chicopee in Little Rock, Arkansas from 1974-1979. Ralph returned to New Jersey and was director of product and development for Chicopee and traveled extensively during this time. He retired in 1988 as Vice President of Manufacturing for Johnson & Johnson He leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Monica Blaszka Tompkins.
He is survived by his four children, Donna Tompkins, Spotswood NJ, Ralph G. Tompkins & wife Noreen, Raleigh NC, Lois T. Johnson & husband Benton, Four Oaks NC, Michael K. Tompkins & wife Valarie, Four Oaks, NC. He is survived by his brother, George E. Tompkins & wife Mildred, Seaside Heights NJ. Ralph left behind eight grandchildren Ralph B. Tompkins & wife Heather, Allison J. Stewart & husband Chad, Brian Simmons, Alissa Tompkins, Juliann Tompkins, Kathleen Johnson, Luke Tompkins, and Dallas Tompkins. Survived also by two great Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents Matilda & Ralph G. Tompkins. Ralph was a communicant of the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Seaside Heights NJ.
