Torrington: Ralph F. Newman, 81, of 31 Thompson Heights, died Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Haven Health in Torrington, following a lengthy illness. Born in North Canaan, May 26, 1926, son of the late George W. and Kathryn (Hart) Newman he ehad lived in the area all of his life. He had attended local schools in Canaan, served in the Navy douring WW II, had worked for Hudson Wire in Winsted and owned and operated Smokey’s Tavern in Winsted. Survivors include two sons, Gary Newman and Todd Newman both of Torrington and 2 grandchildren.
