Obit Ralph Koerwitz-92 of Hebron, NE

Ralph Ernest Koerwitz of Hebron, NE the son of Ernest and Mary(Bartels)Koerwitz, was born February 1, 1918 in rural Deshler, NE. He departed this life Friday January 28, 2011 at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron, NE at the age of 92 years, 11 months, and 27 days. é

Ralph grew up in the Deshler area attending Deshler Public School. He quit school after the 8th grade following the death of his father, as he was needed on the farm. He was baptized February 17, 1918 and confirmed in 1932 at St. Peter Church in Deshler, NE by Reverend W Cholcher.

He was drafted into the United Stated Army Air Corp. May 24, 1943 during WW II and was stationed on Tinian Island close to Guam. He was honorably discharged November 24, 1945 and returned home to work for Harold Marshmann Construction and later buying the company and changing the name to Koerwitz Construction in 1952. Ralph continued doing all types of dirt work with heavy equipment and traveling to many counties digging basements. Ralph was also in the gravel and sand business and was still driving truck late into his 80’s with the help of his son Jim.

Ralph married Lois Long February 19, 1955 in the Episcopal Church in Hebron, NE. and this union was blessed with the birth of one son Jim.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lois on November 2, 2007, two sisters; Alma Segelken and Helen Snook.

He is survived by one son James Koerwitz of Hebron, NE, three grandchildren Michael Koerwitz and wife Casey of Lincoln, NE, Jordan Koerwitz and fiancée Angie Brollini of Beatrice, NE, and Kristen Swartzendruber and husband Rich of Carleton, NE, Great-grandchildren Kellyn Lois Koerwitz of Lincoln, NE and Torrence Faye Swartzendruber of Carleton, NE, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
