Raleigh Richard Scott passed away August 3, 2011, after a courageous fight. Raleigh was born on March 24, 1929, in Bristol, Tennessee, to William Edward and Hattie K. Scott (Payne).
Raleigh served in the U.S. Air Force from December, 1951, to December 1955. During that time, he was trained to work on the support equipment for jet engines, and for a time was stationed in Newfoundland.
Raleigh could repair almost anything. Most of his working life was spent repairing and maintaining automatic pinsetters. He had calls from all over the Northwest for his advice troubleshooting and repairing pinsetting equipment.
Raleigh’s mind was always at work. He was always “tinkering” and looking for ways to improve existing machinery. He always felt he was on the verge of a great invention.
During his marriage to Wanda Stafford (Oct. 12, 1950), Raleigh’s sons, Michael Edward and Gregory Allen, were born.
Raleigh and Sophia Strode were married in Battle Mountain, Nevada, on August 12, 1967. During their almost 44 years of marriage, they loved to take long rides in one of their convertibles.
Raleigh was also an avid bowler. One of his highest achievements was winning the World Open Classic in Ogden, Utah, in 1960. He was invited back the next year, and bowled with Dick Weber. In 2009, he was inducted into the Caldwell Bowlers Hall of Fame.
Raleigh is survived by his wife, Sophia Strode Scott; his two sons, Michael Edward (Deanna) and Gregory Allen (Carolyn); his grandsons, Michael, Jr. (Amanda) and Shane Scott; his great-grandsons, Brady Scott and Nicholas Mulligan; and his nephew, Scott (Cindy) Stephensen.
Raleigh was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hattie, and his brother, Claude.
