On October 27, 2006, Rachel W. Shanks passed away at the age of 90. Born in Senoia, Georgia, she was a resident of Glen Burnie for 50 years and also lived in West Palm Beach Florida for 7 years. Devoted wife for 28 years to the late Quintin Shanks; Beloved mother of Ret. Col. James L. McKnight, Charles T. McKnight and Nita Maggio; Cherished grandmother of 13 and great-grandmother of 18. She was predeceased by her brothers, Monroe, James, Elam, Robert and Edward Williams. Rachel was a textile expert and worked for the Linen Thread Company.

She was talented at working with her hands and enjoyed crocheting and making blankets and belonged to the International Weavers Association. Rachel loved to fish. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and making her delicious jelly. At one time she owned a small business in Florida and was quite the entrepreneur. More than anything, Rachel will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and her passion for life.
