Rachel Lee Watson was born in Washington, DC on August, 18, 1940, to the late Mabrey and Cora B. Harrison Foster. Rachel attended Dunbar High School in Washington D.C. Rachel later married the late Moses Watson in 1956, from this union was born 6 children. Later in life she met Richard Nelson and from this union there were born 2 children.  Rachel worked as a custodian laborer for National Security Agency in 1965.  She also worked part-time as a custodian for Prince Georges Board of Education.  From there she attended PG College and began working for the US Courts in the Federal Government as a Secretary for Accounting Branch.  Rachel was a very hard worker and always made sure her children had what was needed.  After her injury in 1988, she became a full-time mother.

At the age of 13, Rachel committed her life to the Lord Jesus Christ in 1953 at Bible Way Church on New Jersey Avenue in Washington DC. She joined the choir and had the most beautiful voice.  She was also a faithful member at Plain Truth Baptist Church, Baltimore Outreach and Second Refreshing Spring.  Rachel was the most selfless person. She ALWAYS opened her house to strangers who had no place to live and enjoyed cooking and having holiday celebrations (especially Christmas), birthdays, cookouts, and the list goes on.  Whenever someone needed to host an event, it was always at big Mama’s house, and she would never say NO.   She was a stern disciplinarian and when she gave orders, we had no other choice but to fulfill the duties because big Mama had no time for foolishness.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Vernon and Jack Foster and her oldest daughter Antoinette Watson. After God’s work was completed in her life, He called her home on November, 23, 2020. Rachel will be sorely missed, and leaves to cherish her memory her loving family: seven children, Moses Watson, Jerry Watson, Donna Erwin (late Joseph), Peggy Lewis (Mitchell), Marlene Mitchell (Dean), Sean Nelson, and Sharnice Nelson.  One brother, Eugene Foster, Seventeen grandchildren, twenty-six great- grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
