Rachel Luella Haines, age 86, of Taneytown, Md., died on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at Lorien Taneytown.

Born January 11, 1922 in Arnoldstown, Md., Frederick County, she was the daughter of the late Vernon E. and Annie Condon Heffner. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph “Doc” C. Haines in 1982.

She was a member of the Mayberry First Church of God. She began work at the Borensteins Clothing Factory, and later worked for the Carroll County Public Schools as a food service and cafeteria worker at both Taneytown High School and the Northwest Middle School until her retirement in 1985. She volunteered with Carroll Hospice and with Alzheimer’s patients. Rachel loved to read and travel.

Surviving are children and spouses, Genevieve “Jeannie” and Larry Myers of Westminster, Ralph Ronald “Ronnie” and Barbara Haines of Taneytown, Ray and Pat Haines of Littlestown, Pa., Robert Haines of Thurmont, and Garry and Joanne Haines of Taneytown; a brother, Paul Heffner of New Windsor, sisters, Ruth Niner of Westminster, Martha Brown of Hanover, Pa., and Betty Copenhaver of Taneytown.

Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
