Rachel Jean “Maidge” Sheppard Mahaley was born on October 24, 1953 in Lawrence County, Alabama to the late Clifton Theo Sheppard Sr. and Bertha Jean Jones Sheppard. She departed this life of August 4, 2017 at Decatur Morgan Hospital-Decatur General Campus.
She accepted Christ as her person Savior at an early age and united with Oakville M.B. Church under the leadership of the Reverend Willie Walton.
She was educated in the Lawrence County School System and afterward she joined the Job Corp. Prior to becoming disabled, Rachel was employed by the Hardees Corporation and later as a sales associate with Walmart.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Brian Keith Mahaley. Rachel was affectionately called “Maidge” by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father; sister, Clista Sheppard and brother, Cecil Sheppard.
Rachel leaves to cherish her memory: her loving husband, Brian Keith Mahaley of Moulton; two children, Lakeisha Sheppard of Oakville, AL and Abril (Tammy) Sheppard of Moulton; her mother, Bertha Jean Sheppard; three sisters, Lillian Sheppard (Scotty) and Rosemary Sheppard of Oakville, AL and Roberta Brooks (Tim) of Baytown, TX; a brother, Clifton Sheppard, Jr (Roberta) of Oakville, AL; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
