United in marriage to JoLee Kengle in 1952, they celebrated their 50th anniversary before her death in 2002. In 1959 they moved from Lamar, CO to Canon City where he worked in construction. R.C. was a member of the Eagles, Operating Engineers Local #9, a lifetime member of the Canon City and Florence Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge #610, and the V.F.W.
