Deacon Quincy Albert Brooks was born April 16, 1948 to the late Tommie Brooks Sr. and the late Ora Lee Jones-Brooks in Barlow Bend. He transitioned from this earthly realm to rest with God eternally Aug. 29, 2021.
He confessed Christ at an early age and was a member of Union Chapel Baptist Church in Barlow Bend. He united with the Little Burrah Baptist Church of Manila in 2013, under the leadership of the Rev. Jimmy Snell. On April 27, 2014, he was ordained as a deacon and fulfilled his spiritual duties until his health failed.
Deacon Brooks was a 1968 graduate of Harper High School and was a passionate sports fanatic. As an avid athlete, he played basketball in school and was a die-hard Alabama Crimson Tide fan. He was employed for nearly 20 years at Jackson Saw Mill, until he an accident left him on disability. But he refused to just be home sitting down. He became a jack of all trades and enjoyed carpentry and doing other handy-man jobs around his community and abroad.
On Nov. 21, 1980 he married Karen Lyvon Wright. To this union a daughter was born. In 2020, Quincy and Karen celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Louise Session.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Karen Wright Brooks; son, Quinton Sherman Scott; daughter, Dr. NaQuindra Danielle Brooks; two sisters, Mattie (Willie) Jackson of Barlow Bend and Lillie Windham of Foley; three brothers, Robert (Annette) Brooks of Mobile, Tommie Brooks Jr. and Wilson Brooks, both of Foley; three devoted sisters-in-law, Veda (Gary) Young of Whatley, Sharanda (DeAndre) Cottrell of Manila and Shandra (Russell) Dunson of Jackson; three devoted brothers-in-law, Cyrus Wright and Michael Wright, both of Manila, and Ricky (Sharon) Wright Sr. of Los Angeles, Calif.; six devoted grandchildren, Stephon Scott of Montgomery, Aaliyah Scott of Birmingham, Quinton A. “QJ” Scott, Daylon Scott, Caedon Scott and Kingston Scott, all of Atlanta, Ga.; two devoted friends, Donnie and Dave Powell of Cortelyou; a loving niece, Minister Felecia Wells of Pensacola, Fla.; three locally devoted nieces and two locally devoted nephews, Jasmine Young of Atlanta, Ga., Keziah West, Saniya Dunson and Tylah Dunson, all of Jackson, and Jordan Young of Whatley; two devoted pastors-in-love, the Rev. William E. Jackson III and the Rev. Garry Jackson, who was also an adopted son of the family; a compassionate hospice caregiver and cousin, Ramona Love-Bryant; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and countless friends.
