Preston Collins was born July 28, 1934 to Clarence and Fannie (Ruffin) Collins in Riderwood, AL.
Preston was baptized at an early age at Wahalak Missionary Baptist Church. He later became an Elder at Riderwood Church of God in Christ. After many years presiding over Riderwood Church of God in Christ, he moved his membership to Lisman Church of God in Christ, where he remained faithful until his health failed.
Preston married Elner (Edna Lee) Jackson, to this union eight children were born. He later moved to Mobile, AL where he worked at the Shipyard. Later, Preston and his family moved back to Riderwood, AL, where he became employed at Connie Littlepage Sawmill. He then became employed with Choctaw County Road Commission, where he remained until he retired in 1994. During retirement, Preston started working at Jachin Lumber Company and West Alabama Bank as a janitor, until his health began to fail.
After the passing of Elner (Edna Lee), Preston married Betty James. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marena Day.
After a brief illness, Elder Collins finished his journey on earth and departed this world on November 23, 2015.
Preston is survived by his wife, Betty Collins; four daughters, Rose (Levorn) Harbin of Butler, AL; Josephine (Arthur) Spear of Killeen, TX; Patricia (Sellie) Ross of Detroit, MI; Carol Jones of Lisman, AL; four sons, Preston Collins, Jr. of Mobile, AL; Anthony Collins of Butler, AL; Claude (Janet) Collins of Meridian, MS; Calvin (Thomasena) Collins of Birmingham, AL; fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; two nieces, Dolly Thomas and Diane Walker, both of Detroit, MI; two aunts, Effie Johnson of Butler, AL and Velma Collins of Indiana; one brother-in-love, Leroy Dees of Chicago, IL; two sisters-in-love, Ethel Hall and Christine Hall, both of Chicago, IL; and a host of cousins and friends.
