Prentiss E. “Tex” Gilbert, Jr., 91, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022 in Indianapolis.

Tex was born on April 28, 1930 in Hillsboro, Texas to the late Prentiss Gilbert, Sr. and Ophilia (Page) Gilbert.

Tex proudly served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1965 and aided on the front lines as a cook during a tour of duty in Korea. He was a member of the Greenwood American Legion Post 252 and a 50+ year member of Suburban Baptist Church. When his late son, Curtis, was of age, Tex started the first Boy Scout troop for boys with special needs in the State of Indiana. It was such a success that 40 boys signed up to be a part of the troop, many of whom remained active scouts until they turned 30 years old.

Tex is survived by his brother, Ernest G. “George” (Kumae) Gilbert of California. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol (Caudell) Gilbert, his son, Curtis E. Gilbert, and his parents, Prentiss Sr. and Ophilia Glbert.
