Prentice C. Cummings, age 91, of Rensselaer passed away Monday, May 14, 2012 at the Jasper County Hospital. Prentice was born in Birdseye, Indiana on May 31, 1920. He was the son of Adrian Cummings and Ona A. (Jones) Cummings Giles.

He was a graduate of Ladoga (Ind.) High School and attended Lafayette Business College. On December 10, 1942, in Virgie, Indiana Prentice married Doris Rockwell who preceded him in death on January 18, 2012. He and Doris had lived in Brownsburg, Indiana, returning to Rensselaer in 1991.

Prentice served in the United States Navy from October, 1941 to October, 1945. He was employed with the Jasper County Co-Op from 1940 to 1966 and with Indiana Farm Bureau from 1966 until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Rensselaer, the Gideon’s International and the American Legion Post #0029.

Prentice is survived by his loving children, Roger (Judy) Cummings, son, Rensselaer, Janet (Steve) Hurley, daughter, Rensselaer, Donn (Tanya) Cummings, son, Brownsburg, IN, Carol (Steve) Gottschalk, daughter, Rochester, IN, and Anne (Duane) Judd, daughter, Clermont, IN; 21 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. Prentice was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Doris, and two brothers, Allen Ray Cummings and William Paul Cummings.
