Phyllis Rae Elwell, 83 of Des Moines IA died at her home on October 20th, 2021. She was born on June 21st, 1938 to Corbett and Alida Hilda (Cassem) Cottrall. She grew up in Des Moines, IA and graduated from North High class of 1956.
After high school Phyllis met and married Richard Elwell on May 1st, 1959. Throughout their marriage they were blessed with 2 children Rene and Richard. They were married 37 years until Richard’s passing in 1996.
When Phyllis was younger she loved bowling and even taught lessons to children. She also was an avid Bridge Bunko player. She had been part of her bridge club for over 40 years.
You would have been hard pressed to see her ever miss a game with her bridge club. But, the one thing Phyllis loved the most was her family. She always wanted her family to be together. Whether it was for Sunday dinners, one of her grandkids birthdays or a big Christmas celebration.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter Rene Reynolds, her son Richard (Janine) Elwell, her sister Delores Tappe, five grandchildren Mickala (Luke) Elwell, Richie Elwell, JoLynn (Justin) Schiermeister, Janelle (Levi) Hiller and Craig Reynolds as well as six great grandchildren Cooper, Fox, Stella, Remmington, Briar and one on the way for Janelle and Levi.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her mother Alida Hilda Cottrall, her father Corbett Cottrall, her sister Marie Scarcello, her brother Glenn Cottrall, her husband Richard Elwell, her son-in-law Craig A. Reynolds, and a great grandson Nash Schiermeister.
