Phyllis Lee DeBord Jones was born January 19, 1933 in Smyth County, VA to the late Reese and Eula DeBord. She graduated from Rich Valley High School and received her RN degree from Lewis Gale Hospital nursing program in 1953. After graduating from nursing school, she worked for a year at Lewis Gale Hospital. Phyllis was also employed by Lee Memorial Hospital for five years as a head nurse and private duty nurse until she retired in 1959.
In 1955, she married Charles Jones and lived in Marion, VA until 1959. She and her husband then relocated to Kalamazoo, Michigan. After living in Kalamazoo, they were offered a franchise opportunity with Snelling & Snelling, Inc. in Charlotte. In 1960, Phyllis and Charles stepped out on faith, moved to Charlotte and started their new endeavor. She and her husband successfully operated their business until they retired in 1990. A few years after relocating to Charlotte, she gave birth to her loving son, Michael Glenn, in 1963.
In her spare time, Phyllis enjoyed painting and genealogy research. She also volunteered for several years with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and was an active member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC.
Preceding her in death, was her loving husband, Charles Jones, of Charlotte, two brothers, Kenneth and Charles DeBord and one sister Mildred DeBord Mason.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Michael Glenn Jones, of Charlotte, and a host of, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
