Phyllis J. McKeown, 81, of Galesburg, died at 8:38 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Phyllis was born May 17, 1937, in Galesburg, the daughter of John James and Virgil Lee (Cheatham) Banks.
Phyllis married Bill McKeown on August 29, 1955, and together they had six children. They later divorced.
Phyllis is survived by two sons, William Lee (Janet) McKeown, Jr. of Galesburg and Jeffery Wayne (Norma) McKeown of rural Rio; three daughters, Pamela Joan (Joe) Landon of Dahinda, Martha Elizabeth (Ricky) Stufflebeem, and Brenda Kay (Bill) Kenney both of Galesburg; and one sister, Shirley Banks of Galesburg. Phyllis is also survived by her pride and joy, 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Lacinda Gale Raible in 1993; one brother, Butch Banks; and one sister, Dee Swank. Phyllis attended East Galesburg and ROVA Schools. Phyllis loved her family more than anything. There is nothing she wouldn’t do for them. Phyllis was whole when her entire family was under one roof. Although she was dealt some struggles in life, she always remained positive, putting everyone before herself. She loved cooking for her family, especially her famous fried chicken and macaroni salad. Phyllis also loved to be outdoors enjoying all nature had to offer from camping, fishing, and gardening. Her Christian faith carried Phyllis through many of life’s difficulties and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Galesburg.
