LIVINGSTONE, Mrs. Phyllis J. , MI Passed away Tuesday evening, June 30, 2015. Phyllis was born January 14, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan to Charles and Mary Detweiler Hayward. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident since 2011, relocating from Farmington, MI. Phyllis taught for the Livonia Public Schools for 28 years, retiring in 1984 before beginning a successful second career. Known as “Sunshine” as a child, she was known for her cheerful disposition, creativity, generosity, and kindness. Her unswerving optimism, empathy and compassion earned her the love and allegiance of her family and countless friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Burt Knighton; a brother, Bruce Hayward; and a sister, Helen Womack. She is survived by her 3 children, David Michele Estebon Livingstone of Farmington, MI, and Laura Peter Livingstone-McNelis and John “Jack” Livingstone of Kalamazoo; a God-daughter, Patricia Fisher, of Fairbanks, Alaska; 6 grandchildren; her former spouse, David Reta Livingstone of Grand Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
