Phyllis Hokanson, 77, of Three Oaks, Michigan, passed away on February 24, 2005, at her home. Phyllis was born August 21, 1927, in Riverside, New Jersey to Floyd and Sara (Wickward) Karg.

Phyllis earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of California, Berkeley; studied at California College of Arts and Crafts; and earned her Master of Arts Degree in Education at Western Michigan University. She was employed for 33 years by the River Valley School District as an educator and art teacher before retiring. Phyllis was an active member of many organizations at U.C. Berkeley and enjoyed traveling worldwide throughout her life. She continued her involvement even into retirement as a board member and juror at the Krasl Arts Center in St. Joseph, volunteering at the Mendel Center in Benton Harbor, and the Box Factory, also an arts organization in St. Joseph. She was also a member of the Church of the Mediator in Harbert, Michigan.

Survivors include her children, Stan (Karen) Hokanson of Shoreview, Minnesota; Karla (Ken) Shimizu, of Kobe, Japan; Stephen (Janet Wolski) Hokanson of Chicago, Illinois, Linda (Ky) Boe of Oakland California and Erik (Linda) Hokanson of St. Joseph; 6 grandchildren and her sister, Sara Jane Karg of Carmel Valley, California.
