Phyllis Hope Hall, 103, finished her long Earthly life on Friday, March 11, 2022 at Calvin Community in Des Moines. Phyllis was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, the daughter of Chris and Mable Kempton, but lived most of her life in Des Moines. She was the oldest child and loving big sister to Kenneth, Lois, and Eugene, all that preceded her in death. She married John Hall in September of 1941, and had two daughters Deborah, in 1946, and stillborn daughter, Roxanna in 1954.
Throughout her career she worked as a secretary for Bankers Life, spent many years as a secretary of Representatives and Senators in the Iowa Legislature, and ended her carrier in 1989 as a Legal Secretary in the Law firm of Zarley, McKee, Tompte, Voorhess and Sease. She also generously volunteered her time by teaching Sunday school to children, working in the nursery, preparing meals for homeless organizations and the ill, running the church blood drive, cuddling babies in the newborn nursery, assisting single moms and children at a local Christian organization, and driving friends to church and appointments. She was a faithful mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, and friend, graciously giving her time and resources however she could. She loved her family fiercely.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter and son in law, Deborah and Dennis Storey of Johnston; grandchildren, Scott (Kristi) of West Des Moines, Jeffrey (Kim) of Grimes, and Melissa (David) Gourley of Johnston; great-grandsons, Drew, Jacob, and Joel Storey, and Samuel and Nickolas Gourley.
