HAVERHILL – Phylis Leon Wingert, our much-loved Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother, also known as GG by her great grandchildren, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2022 at her home in Haverhill, MA at the age of 75 surrounded by her loved ones.
Born as Phylis Leon Garland on July 19, 1946, in Boston, MA, to the late Phillip Wells Garland and Mary (Leon) Garland. Phylis was born as a fraternal twin to her brother Phillip Leon Garland who was also her best friend. She also had an eldest brother also known as Phillip who passed away at infancy at the young age of only 6 months. Phylis and her twin brother both attended Jamaica Plain High school and grew up in Boston, MA.
Phylis and Joe met around the year of 1968. Soon after they fell in love and later were married on June 21, 1986. Our Dad always called her “Philly”, and she always called him “Dad or Hubby”. He loved her very much. They were always together, best friends, and loving spouses. Rarely were they seen apart. Her loving devoted husband Joseph Samuel Wingert recently passed away peacefully at home with family on April 22, 2021. She missed him dearly, they were inseparable and now they are forever together again.
During their years together they continued to grow their family, five Children, Susan, Patty, fraternal twins Jean, Jan, and Robert, five grandchildren, Kristine, Nicholas, Lee Anne, Andrew and Courtney, five great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Conner, Paisley, Liam and Emmett. Along with three son in-laws Rick, Tom and Bill, one grandson in-law Brian, daughter in-law Julie and granddaughter in-law Jazmin. We cannot forget their extended feline additions, Dickens and Toby who they loved dearly and were loving companions for them both.
Family was important to our parents, and they enjoyed quality time with all of us. We have fond memories of Mom sharing her love of crafting.
Our mother enjoyed teaming up with our dad and siblings for a dueling game of cribbage. They regularly were out matched by Jan and Patty or caught cheating by reading the reflection of the cards off of Jean’s glasses. We shared many family activities, such as competitive games of poker, hours of board games, canoeing at the lake, ice skating by the Charles River, enjoying Robert’s, their son, culinary skills of elaborate menus during our large family cookouts, birthday celebrations and holidays.
They have filled our lives and our hearts with lots of love and memories which will be carried on through their future generations. We will miss you mom and dad, forever in our hearts!
