Mathew 7:12: “DO TO OTHERS WHATEVER YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO TO YOU”
Philomena Mamie Tete Weah Toukolon of Lanham, Maryland, USA was born to the late Mr. James Dosla Weah and Mrs. Jennie Sewon Gbeta Weah on March 16, 1958 in Grand Cess, Grand Kru County, Liberia, West Africa. She was called to be with her Lord on Saturday January 22, 2022 at Capitol Region Medical Center, Upper Marlboro, Maryland. It was with great affection that she was called ‘Mamie’ by family and friends; ‘Weah Dosla Tete’ by her elders; ‘Philomena’ by her teachers and coworkers; and Mrs. Toukolon by other professionals and providers.
Mamie received her early education at St. Patrick’s Elementary School in Grand Cess. She graduated from Our Lady of Fatima High School in Cape Palmas, Maryland County, Liberia. Her Bachelor of Science in Nursing was earned from Cuttington University, Suakoko, Liberia. After passing the Liberian Nursing Board Exam, Mamie worked as a Registered Nurse at Catholic Hospital, Sinkor, Monrovia, Liberia.
In the early 1990’s (1992-1993), Mamie relocated with her children from Liberia to join her husband, George, in Washington DC, USA. Upon arrival, she successfully sat and passed the Nursing Board Exam in DC. She then began to work at The DaVita Center in DC for several years. Following which, the family moved to Cheverly, Maryland. For more than 15 years, Mamie worked as a specialized Dialysis Nurse at US Renal Care, Hyattsville, Maryland until her passing.
Philomena was extremely intelligent, proud and a private person who always put her family first. She was very generous and she had a big heart. For example, she helped family and friends pay for their children’s education and helped others build their homes and their businesses. She also enjoyed contributing to the Grand Cess Liberian Community. She took pride in decorating her home; enjoyed cooking and baking different food especially African cuisine. Mamie found much strength, joy and peace in listening to and singing along with Gospel and African music.
Mamie was predeceased by her husband George Toukolon; her parents Mr. James Dosla Weah and Mrs. Jennie Sewon Gbeta Weah; and younger sister, Felita Kuko Weah. She leaves to mourn and celebrate her precious life, her children: James Dosla Toukolon (Monrovia, Liberia), Nyekpoah Felita Tian Toukolon (MD, USA), Tetee Kangar (MD, USA), her granddaughter, Sherris Jennie Toukolon (Detroit, MI) and a host of cousins and friends in the USA and Liberia.
May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace!
