Philomena Rose Piscitelli-Caprio, 77, entered the house of the father on June 18, 2010 after a brief illness. A long-time resident of Branford, Philomena was born in New Haven on June 22, 1933 to the late Antonio and Margaret Piscitelli. Philomena (Phyllis) was the wife of the late Joseph A. Caprio who predeceased her in 1986 after 31 years of marriage. Philomena touched the hearts of many and was an inspiration to all those who knew her, especially to her children; Anthony J. Caprio of New Haven and Susan Caprio-Saren of Milford, CT. A graduate of James Hill House High School in New Haven, she enjoyed her career in administration for the department of Neurology at The Hospital of Saint. Raphael. Mrs. Caprio was an active member of the Lions Club in Branford and the National Federation of the Blind where she initiated and taught brail on computers to blind students. In the 70’s and mid to late 80’s, Mrs. Caprio was an avid advocate for the rights of the blind and disabled persons in the State of Connecticut. In addition to her work for the blind, Mrs. Caprio held a position in the 80’s to mid 90’s for Sarah, Inc in Guilford.
