Mazzitelli
Philomena
(nee Simone), on March 24, 2015, of Washington Twp. Age 72. Beloved wife of Dominick. Devoted mother of John (Christine) and Maria M. Romano. Loving grandmother of Emily, Elizabeth, Giovanna and Daniella. Dear sister of John, Robert, Ronald, Maryann Simone and the late Louise Madaia and Ambrose Simone.

Phyllis (she hated Philomena) was born in Brooklyn, NY on Oct. 4, 1942 to Priscilla and John Simone. She was the 3rd of 7 children: Louise, John, twins Ronald and Robert, Ambrose and Maryann.
No matter how painful life’s turns may be, Phyllis believed God was with her and guiding her. Her early days were spent like many kids born in Brooklyn, playing with friends in the street and going to school. That came to a sudden end when her father was diagnosed with cancer and passed away when she was 15. She and her brother John left school to work and support the family. Phyllis sought advice and subsequently found herself job hunting in the “City”. (New York City). She worked at several clerical jobs in various insurance companies until she was hired at The Hartford Insurance Company. She started as a file clerk then took an opportunity in the policy typing pool. Something she really liked to do because it required typing skills and made her feel important. This is where she believed God was directing her path…
…while working at the Hartford she met her husband to be, Dominick. They began dating and ultimately married October 16, 1965. Their daughter, Maria, came in October of 1966 and their son, John, in November 1969 to complete their family.
Phyllis’ legacy can be described in one word: Love. She gave love to everyone and sacrificed herself for others. As you might imagine, Phyllis chose to stay home and raise her children. She volunteered at nursing homes, her children’s schools and always made others feel good even if just to compliment the person standing in line next to her or offer compassion to anyone in need.
In her twenties, Phyllis began meeting significant challenges in her health which she battled until March 24, 2015. Her strength and determination never wavered as she continued to raise her two children with love and affection beyond compare. Her children were her life, her heart and soul. She dedicated her life to making her family strongly bonded through love, art and FOOD! Wow…could she cook! There were healthy, delicious, all homemade dinners, bread and desserts every night at 530pm in her home. You could always count on that along with big holiday dinners around a beautiful setting that kept everyone at the table enjoying the warmth and laughter that only Phyllis’ love and cooking could do. Family was her priority as were all her friends.
She continued that love and affection with her 4 granddaughters, Emily, Elizabeth, Giovanna and Daniella. They naturally became her inspiration and purpose in life.
Selfless love is her legacy and she will always be affectionately remembered for it. XOXO
