Phillip “Ted” Theodore Shaffer 79, of Masontown died Wednesday June 8, 2011 at Monongalia General Hospital with his family by his side. He was born at Bull Run near Masontown, WV April 25, 1932 a son of the late Millard and Elizabeth (Rice) Shaffer. Ted was a former member of the Masontown VFD and Mt. Zion Cemetery Association. He belonged to the Preston County Farm Bureau, was an avid farmer, and liked to hunt. While maintaining one of the best local farms he worked forty-seven years in the coal mines retiring from Arkwright. He is survived by his wife of sixty years Norma Jean “Jeannie” (Wolfe) Shaffer; two daughters and spouses Janet E. Gregg and Philip and Phyllis J. Greathouse and Ronnie; two sisters Merna Jean Tennant and Marlyn Joy Howard; five grandchildren Chris Gregg, Jennifer (Brian) Spiker, Skip (Belinda) Greathouse, Tammy (Darrell) Chipps, and Jeff(Ellen) Greathouse; and seventeen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Edith Fortney and brother Millard Allen Shaffer.
