PHILLIP MICHAEL (MIKE) GOODRICH, JR.
June 10, 1961 – July 28, 2017
On Friday, July 28th, our beloved son, brother, father and uncle, Mike Goodrich, passed away in his sleep, leaving the ties of this earth behind. Mike was born on June 10, 1961 in San Diego, California, to Becki (Hart) and Phillip (Sr.) Goodrich, while Phil was serving in the US Navy. Just more than a year later brother Greg was born, and from that moment forward the two boys were inseparable.
The family moved back to Idaho following Phil’s military discharge, and the brothers quickly acclimated to life in Boise. They rode their bikes to the YMCA where they swam and played sports, and crawled underneath bridges on the Boise River to catch pigeons, which they trained as carriers and flew all over the city. The boys spent the majority of their summers in Crouch, Idaho with their dad, where they camped out, swam and fished the days away.
When Mike was eight, his sister Shelley was born. With mom and dad working full-time, much of the care of Shelley fell to her older brothers, and Mike proudly told and re-told the story of potty training his little sister. Phil and Becki were later divorced, and when Becki married Michael Elliott in 1986, Mike gained a second brother, Scott.
In 1979 Mike graduated from Boise High School, and went to work for Buttrey Food and Drug and then Albertson’s stores as a baker. He also enlisted in the Army National Guard, where he trained at Fort Dix, New Jersey as Crew Chief Pilot for the OH-58 Helicopter. Mike served in the Idaho National Guard for 12 years.
Mike married Robynn Tolley in 1984, and his daughter Nichole Annette was born in 1987. Son Brandon Michael followed in 1990. His children were a great source of pride throughout the rest of his life. Mike and Robynn divorced in 1996, and he later married and was divorced from Shannon Carnell.
Mike had a love of flying his entire life, and in 2003 he followed in the footsteps of his brother Greg in earning his private pilot’s license.
Anyone who knew Mike knew of his enormous generosity. It was said that Mike would give you the shirt off his back and his last dollar. He was an amazing uncle, and loved to go camping and fishing with brother Greg and his family.
Mike spent the last two years living with his father and helping his brother Greg renovate the horse property that he and his wife purchased in 2016.
The week before he left us, Mike was in McCall with his extended family and friends for the annual Goodrich/Elliott group vacation and he enjoyed interacting with all the cousins, riding on the boat, and talking music with his brother Scott. We will always treasure those last moments we had with him.
Mike is survived by his mother Becki (Michael) Elliott, father Phillip Sr., brothers Greg (Paula) and Scott (Jenna) Elliott, and his sister Shelley (John) Barrutia, his children Brandon, Nichole (Darrell) Spigner, and grandchildren Jakobe Goodrich and Kannon Spigner, nephews Lucas and Grayson Barrutia and Zachary Goodrich, and nieces Hali, Hana, Sami and Annabelle Goodrich.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert Hart and Joyce (Bill) Smith, and paternal grandparents D.W. and Virginia Goodrich.
