Phillip Nelson, age 51, of Fort Walton Beach, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center after a brief battle with cancer.
Phillip is survived by his son, Tyler, his parents, Richard and Yvonne Nelson of Shalimar, his brothers Warren Nelson, Ray Jones, Michael Jones, William Jones, James Jones, Patrick Jones and his sisters, Beverly Geiger, Elizabeth Barnes and Patricia McDonald and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Marie Von Der Osten.
Phillip was born in Fort Bragg, N.C., and grew up in Fort Walton Beach where he graduated from high school in 1980. Phillip enjoyed the outdoors and fell in love with kite boarding during the early days of the sport. He taught and mentored many within the sport, both young and old. He leaves behind a large kite boarding family who will greatly miss him.
