Philip D. “Phil” Wyres, 80, passed away at Grey Stone Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne following an extended illness at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Aug 9.
He was born in Goshen on Nov. 19, 1933, to the late Claude and Alta (Schrock) Wyres and married Virginia Sands on Feb. 17, 1951, in Elkhart.
While Virginia survives, Phil was preceded in death by his siblings, Claude Jr., Stephen and Linda.
Also surviving are his daughters, Karen Wyres of Elkhart and Debbie (Larry) Ziolkowski of Huntertown; sister Sandra; three grandchildren, including Philip Torres; and one great-grandson.
Phil retired as a metal fabrication foreman at Syndicate Store Fixtures in Middlebury in 1996 and was previously employed by Henry Weis Manufacturing and was its local credit union president.
He was a member of the Bristol American Post 143, Elkhart DAV Post 19 and the Cass County Conservation Club, and enjoyed turkey shoots, NASCAR and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He was also an avid dog lover and had owned several breeds over the years.
