Philip Studer, age 84, of Algona passed away on Monday February 19, 2018 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Philip Aloysius Studer was born on November 8, 1933 in Wesley, Iowa to Julius and Caroline (Wingert) Studer. He attended grade school at St. Joseph Grade School in Wesley and high school at St. Lawrence Seminary in Mt. Calvary, Wisconsin. Philip farmed with his father SE of Wesley until 1954 when he joined the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Frankfort, Germany most of his Army service as a Chaplain’s Assistant. On August 28, 1956 Philip was united in marriage with Rosa Lee Reising at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. They farmed south of Wesley for 10 years then they purchased a farm near Stacyville, Iowa and continued farming for 18 years. In 1984, Philip joined the Garst Seed Company as a District Sales Manager and moved to Granite Falls, Minnesota where they lived for the next 25 years. Retiring in 2009, they re-located back to Algona. Philip was active in the Knights of Columbus and was a VFW member. He enjoyed working part time at the KCHS Museum which he did for 5 years. Through the years Philip and Rosa Lee remodeled and restored a number of homes including an 1897 Victorian House and an 1881 church which they remodeled into a home. He enjoyed working, gardening, canoeing and dancing. Left to cherish Philip’s memory is his wife of 61 years, Rosa Lee; four children, Kent (Roberta) Studer of Mason City, Ann (Brian) Abrahamson of Blaine, MN, Linda (David) Jasinski of St. Paul, MN and Kirk (Tina) Studer of Spencer; eight grandchildren, Nicole Nemke, Britney Kisner, Tracy Studer, Katie Studer, Taylor Sun, Sara Studer, Jacob Abrahamson and James Studer; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Emily Rose Studer; four brothers; and two sisters.
