Sturtz, Philip R. of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at his home with his family at his side. He was 75 years old. Philip Ronald Sturtz was born on January 13, 1943 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late, Alex and Marie (Kobas) Sturtz. He married the love of his life, Jessalyn Frances Riggs on October 14, 1967; she survives him. Phil was a 1960 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. Following graduation, he attended Central Michigan University, graduating in 1964. Phil then studied at the Detroit College of Law, receiving his Juris Doctorate in 1967. In 1981, Phil proudly formed Sturtz and Sturtz Law. He was member of the American Bar Association, State Bar Association of Michigan, Saginaw County Bar Association and a Past President and member of Resurrection Lutheran Church. Phil was an avid outdoorsmen and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially in his two favorite spots, Caseville and the Grand Cayman Islands. He was the best husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend you could ever encounter. Phil will forever be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his indomitable spirit and for truly living an “auspicious” life.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 50 years, Jessalyn F. Sturtz of Saginaw; two daughters and one son: Jody (Jeff) Hall of Ortonville, Carrie (Tim) Burns of Saginaw and Philip A. (Marcy) Sturtz; nine grandchildren: Maxwell, Sophia, Spence, James, Philip, Camron, Karina, Andrew and Benjamin; one brother, A. Lee (Sena) Sturtz of Saginaw; two brothers-in-law: Donald Riggs (good friend Patricia McCan) and Eric (Mary Jane) Riggs. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Marie Sturtz.
