Mr. Philip J. DeJohn, Sr., 82, of Granger, passed away peacefully with his daughter at his side following an extended illness at Heritage Point Assisted Living Center in Mishawaka on Thursday, March 26, 2020. He was born Sept. 14, 1937 in Newaygo, MI to the late Philip and Stephanie E. (Lezauski) DeJohn. He later married Mildred A. Wildoner in 1959 in Newaygo. She passed away in 2017.
Surviving are his children Philip J. DeJohn, Jr. of Grabill, Lillese “Lee” (Marge Reynolds) DeJohn of Cassopolis, MI, and John (Cheryl) and Paul (Julie) DeJohn, both of Elkhart; brother Thomas DeJohn of Freemont, MI; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. A daughter, Doreen Kloosterman, and a brother, David DeJohn, preceded Phil in death.
Phil owned Art People and DeJohn Advertising in Elkhart for many years, then later worked at the local Menard’s and Big R as well. He was a member of the Lion’s Club and was an avid hunter and fisherman, skills no doubt honed by his youthful affinity for Boy Scouts. He was outgoing and social, loved all kinds of artwork, spent many years as a Boy Scout Leader, and was thankful for his many friends and caring staff at Heritage Point, where he served as the official “ambassador” and greeter.
