Philip E.””Phil”” Monsey, 82, Huntington, IN, died at 6:49 a.m., Wednesday, December, 29, 2010 at Parkview Huntington Hospital. Mr. Monsey was born November 12, 1928 to John Clifford and Ruth (Pennington) Monsey in Trenton, Ohio. His parents preceded him in death. Mr. Monsey moved to Huntington in 1942 and graduated from Huntington High School in 1946.
He married Marianna Grayston on June 17, 1950 in Huntington, IN. She preceded him in death on October 8, 2009. Phil was a swimmer and diver on the swim team coached by Glen Hummer. Mr. Monsey served in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1948. He worked as an embalmer for Merckx Funeral Home (now McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home), was a sales representative for Utah Corporation, Triad-Utrad Corporation and Huser Cigar Company all of Huntington, IN.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church Huntington, and a former member of Huntington Elks Lodge and American Legion Post 160 in Roanoke, IN. Phil is survived by one son: John K. (Darlene) Monsey; Andrews, IN; one daughter: Marjorie A. (Rick) Buzzard, Huntington; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
