Phanorack James Daniel Chapman, 23 years old, of Chickamauga, GA passed away Thursday, January 14 peacefully at home following a long struggle with cancer. James leaves behind his aggrieved parents Phathanie and Greg Chapman, brother Kitarack John Chapman, grandmother Rebecca Chapman, grandparents Somboun and Toumkham Somphanh, and many loving uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. James was preceded in death by his grandfather, Harold Dean Chapman.
James was an extraordinary and intelligent young man who lived a lifetime in his short 23 years. He grew up in Thailand, Laos, the Philippines, Malaysia and Washington DC, where his parents worked for the State Department. Each summer he and his brother spent several months at their grandparents’ home in Chickamauga, the place James called home. He loved outdoor activities, especially hiking, fishing, camping, canoeing, crabbing and collecting fossils along the shore of the Chesapeake Bay.
James attended the New International School of Bangkok, in Thailand, Kent Gardens Elementary School in Fairfax Virginia, and Vientiane International School in Laos for his elementary education, and later attended high school at Brent School in the Philippines and the International School of Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia, from which he graduated in 2011. James went on to attend Radford University in Virginia before transferring to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He was an aspiring English major, and looked forward to becoming a teacher after graduation. His greatest dream was to share his love of literature and film with others.
