Peter T. Miller, 77, of Palatka, passed from this life on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center following a brief illness. Born in Gainesville, Florida, to Cecil S. Miller and Eleanor H. Miller, Pete was raised in Interlachen and was a 1962 graduate of Palatka High School. After graduating from high school, he attended St. Johns River Jr. College where he received his Associate in Arts Degree in 1965.

He then traveled to Tallahassee to attend Florida State University. He graduated from FSU with his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and minored in Personnel Management. He continued schooling at Florida State University Law School graduating with his Juris Doctorate in 1969. Pete returned to Putnam County to practice law where he grew up. He was in the private practice of law from 1970 until 1984. In 1984, he campaigned on the slogan, “the People’s Choice” and was elected County Judge of Putnam County, Florida. He retired in December 2012 after serving 28 years.

During his tenure as Judge, he was re-elected to (7) 4-year terms and never drew an opponent. Judge Miller will perhaps be best known and remembered for establishing the punishment of the “I stole from this store” sign. This punishment was successful and continued to be used after his retirement. Following his retirement, he served as a Senior Judge in the 7th Judicial Circuit. In his leisure time, Pete enjoyed hunting and spending time at the camp with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Eleanor H. Miller.
