Peter Maria, age 82, died Sunday, August 11, 2013 at St. John’s Hospital in Oxnard. His generosity and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.
Peter was born in Oxnard on April 1, 1931. Even as a boy, his quick wit helped him joke his way out of more than one scolding. The youngest of four sons, Peter enlisted in the Army during World War II, but was honorably discharged after a law was passed ensuring that one son per family would remain on the home front during the war. It was through their friends, Melvin and Helen Enriquez, that Peter met Eva Nava, the love of his life; but it was on the dance floor that he won her heart.
