Pete was born to Johannes Jr. and Sadie Spoelstra Goodyk on July 13, 1922 in rural Pella. He was the fifth of ten children. He passed away Tuesday morning, February 12, 2008 at the Heritage Manor Care Center in Newton at the age of eighty-five years and seven months, and thirty days.
He received his grade school education at the Andreas County School near Sully. After grade school he began working as a farm hand for neighboring farmers.
One of his greatest loves was breeding and showing riding horses. He received many trophies in competition.
Because of his failing health, he entered Heritage Manor in Newton in April of 2005. His wife Gertrude joined him there in April of 2007.
Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Gertrude; four sisters: Charlotte Beyer of Zeeland, Michigan, Adriana Roose of Pella, Joanne Spykerman and her husband Joel of Holland, Michigan, and Louise Nikkel of Pella; and three sisters-in-law: Freda Goodyk, Esther Goodyk, and Betty Goodyk all of Pella.
Preceding in death were his parents; four brothers: Wiebe, Case, Henry, and Jacob; and one sister, Trena Roose; three brothers-in-law: Albert Beyer, Gerrit Roose, and Wilbur Nikkel; and one sister-in-law, Wilma Goodyk.
