Peter A. Gillespie, 63 years old, a resident of Flagstaff AZ, was born in Staten Island, NY on April 18, 1954. He was an Easter Sunday gift to his parents, Peter A. and Ethel L. Gillespie. He passed his childhood in Tottenville, SI, developing lifelong friendships, surrounded by his extended loving family. Pete was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Boy Scouts and the Zimmermen Club, sparking his interest in the outdoors. During his senior year of high school Pete relocated to Tempe Arizona with his parents and graduated from Tempe HS in 1972.
In the mid 70’s Pete was drawn to Flagstaff for the beautiful location and opportunity to explore the open areas surrounding the city. He established himself in the community, forming connections and friendships that would last through his life there. As an accomplished outdoorsmen, Pete immersed himself in this life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the opportunities to ski that was available in Flagstaff area. Pete was a licensed guide and also worked on the Colorado River trips for a period of time. In addition to his outdoor interest, Pete enjoyed travel. He visited family and friends in New Jersey regularly. Some of his favorite vacation sites where in Mexico, Europe and with Alaska being his favorite. Anyone who knew Pete witnessed his affection for his dogs, many of which were shelter animals. Pete was an entrepreneur, he worked with builders and on home renovations during his time in Flagstaff.
Peter is predeceased by his father Peter A. Gillespie, Peter is survived by his life time companion Jolene Rolston her children Valoree Martell, Denny Rolston. He will be missed by her 7 grandchildren and great grandson.
Peter leaves behind his mother Ethel L. Gillespie, Tempe AZ, sisters, Susan B. Knesel (Clifford), Gillette WY; Lynne M. Braine (Ronald), Edison, NJ; Ethel F. Standlee (Clifford), Tempe AZ; Paula A. Porreca, Tempe, AZ. He is survived by his aunts, Barbara Ambrose, Crystal Creek, FL; Lorraine Pena (Robert) Myrtle Beach, SC; Elaine Gillespie, Sarasota, FL; Marie Smith, Ocean View, DE. Peter will be missed by his 8 nieces and nephews who share many fond memories and fun stories of their uncle, along with his 16 great nieces and nephews. Peter leaves behind many loving cousins and lifelong friends on the east coast and in the west that share countless memories of Peter.
