Born to Pete and Eva Grubbs Shelton in Boyd County Kentucky, he moved to this area in 1965 from California. Mr. Shelton served in the U.S. Army during WWII and Korea. In 1956, he received his Bachelor’s Degree in math from Berea College in Kentucky. He went on to work for Goodyear Atomic Energy Plant in Ohio then North American in California and General Electric in Daytona Beach, where he was a software and computer analyst for the Apollo Space program, receiving awards for his work. After retirement, he worked as a software engineering consultant for various nuclear power plants, as well as a building contractor and realtor. A Baptist, Mr. Shelton was a devoted family man. He was past president and treasurer for the New Smyrna Beach Lion’s Club and was a charter member of the American Legion in Piketon, Ohio. Mr. Shelton enjoyed woodworking, fishing, farming and designing and building homes.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nella, his son, Charles David and his wife Kimla of New Smyrna Beach, his daughters, Linda Louise and Julia Marie Shelton of New Smyrna Beach, Cindy Shelton and her husband Mike Toltowicz of Cocoa, brothers, Brady and his wife Kathleen of Ashland, Kentucky, and Denver of Coal Grove, Ohio, sister-in-law, Ruth Shelton of Richmond, Kentucky, brother-in-law Nelson Walker of Ashland, grandchildren, Caylyne, Clayton, and Jeremy Shelton and Emily Toltowicz, and several nieces and nephews.
