Percy was born on April 9, 1950 to Mary Simpson Mayes and Leslie Mayes Sr. in Lawrence County, Alabama. He departed this life September 8, 2015 in Lawrence County, Alabama.

He was educated in the Lawrence County School System, where he was a graduate of Courtland High School Class of 1969.  Percy worked for Dick Coffee Construction Company and later for Amoco Chemical (BP) in Decatur, Alabama where he retired.

He confessed hope in Christ and joined Blackburn Chapel Church in Huntsville, AL where he was a faithful and dedicated member.

Percy enjoyed watching football, basketball, spending time with his family and friends. He loved taking his granddaughter, Neleigh bouncing at the Mall and to the park.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Mary Mayes; two brothers Robert and Leslie Mayes Jr; one daughter Bridgette Mayes.

He leaves to cherish his memory:  his wife, Joyce Mayes, Hartselle, AL; two daughters, Feloney Mayes, Decatur, AL., Brandy Langham, Birmingham, AL; two sons,  Torrey Mayes, Courtland, AL., Timothy Mayes, Red Bank, AL;  six sisters, Stella Mayes, Cleveland, OH. Queen( Willie) King, Trinity, AL., Laura Mayes Orr, Courtland, AL., Annie Mayes Thomas, Courtland, AL.,  Pearl (Robert) Harris, Decatur, AL.,  Catherine Staton, Decatur, AL; two brothers, James Mayes, Cincinnati, OH., and Warren Dillard, Hillsboro, AL; one aunt, Annie Davis, Chattanooga, TN., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
