Penelope Ida Nuzzo (nee Weiss). 10/10/44-1/26/19. She was known to her family as Penelope and was “Penny” to her friends. Penelope was born in Barry, Wales, United Kingdom, to an American soldier and British ambulance driver. She came to the United States when she was 3 years old and lived in Bergen County, NJ, for more than 60 years. She was the beloved mother of Robert Gorman, and his wife, Yumiko, and Jennifer Nuzzo, and her husband, Marc Kuchner, and loving grandmother to Liam, Shane, Brendan, Elise, Miles and Seren. She was pre-deceased by her sisters, Lavinia and Jacqueline. She leaves behind her brother, Nigel (and his wife, Marie, and daughter Sharon), and brother, Frederick (and his wife Diane). Penelope graduated from Westwood High School (class of 1962) and Fairleigh Dickinson University.
A horticulturist by occupation, Penelope worked for many years at McHutchison, a horticultural brokerage firm based in Wayne. An avid gardener, Penelope spent countless hours cultivating the numerous, spectacular garden beds that surrounded her New Jersey home. She would garden until the sun went down and was known to rescue from local garden centers plants that were in need of additional love and care.
Penelope loved to tinker: fixing up her home, making jewelry and sewing. She was often seen about the neighborhood, walking (briskly) for exercise and fun. She loved to learn and often enrolled in adult education classes (fly fishing, pottery, Spanish language). Friends and family were amazed by her energy and talent.
Penelope enjoyed music (Bee Gees, Eagles, Pavarotti), “nice crusty” bread and homemade soups. She had an enormous sweet tooth, which included a preference for licorice, jelly beans gum-drops.
