Peggy Rae Jackson, age 76 received her wings on Thursday, October 25th, 2019.
She was born in Choctaw, Oklahoma on August 2nd, 1943 to Eliga and Virgie Rose. She was quite young when her family moved from Oklahoma to Olivehurst, California. She loved every one of her 8 siblings – Barbara, Sherman, Geneva, Ella Mae, Tommy, Geri, Melvin, and Naomi. In the spring of 1963 she met the love of her life Sherman Jackson Jr. It took some convincing on his part, however, on October 11th, 1963 they were married in Reno, Nevada. They remained married for over 54 years before she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Sherman on April 10th, 2018. Peggy loved her family with all her heart and told them on a daily basis. She always put her family first. She was so proud of all of her children. Peggy said her greatest accomplishment was being a mother.
As a young girl Peggy wanted to be a nurse, that must be why anyone who ever met her, felt her love and said she was the sweetest, kindest person they have ever known. That is, of course, unless you messed with her family. Then the protective “Momma Bear” in her would come out and you had better watch out! That being said, you would be hard pressed to find anyone who didn’t absolutely adore her. Peggy worked several jobs over the years to help support her family. If you were to ask her though, she would undoubtedly say that her time as an elementary Christian school teacher were the most challenging, yet fulfilling years of her working career. She loved working with children and showing them love of Christ. We have been told numerous times of the positive impact she had on so many of her students’ lives. Later in life, Peggy worked for Lamonts / Gottschalks. She enjoyed working in retail and connecting with people. After she retired, she volunteered her time at the hospital gift shop. It made her soul happy and helped her form bonds with many patients, families, doctors and nurses. She also volunteered much of her time to her local church. She was always eager and happy to help. She truly had the heart of a servant.
Peggy loved the Alaskan outdoors. She enjoyed riding around this beautiful state with Sherman on their Honda Goldwing “Candy”. One of her favorite things to do was camping and fishing with her family. They spent many years competing in the Annual Seward Silver Salmon Derby. One particular year, she caught what would have been the Derby winning fish a day too early. It was a monster of a salmon. The family used to joke about how she was a better fisherman than any of us.
Peggy was a loving mother to her four children Angella Titus, Samantha Cooper, Sherman Jackson III, Olivia Jackson, and two step daughters Terri Mancino and Tami Godfrey. She loved her son in laws Louis Titus and Kevin Cooper, as well as her daughter in law Carmen Jackson. Peggy’s beautiful blue eyes lit up when she saw her 15 grandchildren, Joshua, Jasmine, Roman, Michael, Monique, Meshelle, Madeline, Mariah, Aniyah, Gabrielle, Sherman IV, Tony, Hillary, Sarah, and Amber. She also had 1 great grandchild Noah (with more on the way). We can’t forget her fur grandbabies – Mick, Roxy, Coco, Isis Marie, Yukon, and Jackson.
