Peggy Bowles Spivey, 82, of Raleigh, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 21, 2018, after living a full and blessed life, and her eternal spirit will shine brightly forever. Peggy was born December 29, 1935, in Stuart, VA, to the late Ruffus Woodrow Bowles and Nellie Mae Vaughn.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Paul Gurney Spivey; children: Paula Barrington and husband, Rodney of West Chicago, IL, Linda Murray and husband, Eddie of Dudley, Richard “Rick” Spivey of Charlotte, and Judith Spivey, M.D., Retired, of Greenville, SC; brother, Clarence Bowles and wife, Elnora of Hopewell, VA; grandchildren, Elizabeth Murray, John Barrington and Paul Barrington.
After she graduated from Millbrook High School, she studied at Kings Business College. Her first employment was with NC State, Horticultural Department. She further worked for Occidental Life Insurance Company.
Peggy and her husband have been fortunate and blessed to have had many deep and special friends through Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. She was the longest living member of the church. She became a member years ago as a single young lady and introduced her future husband to Mt. Vernon. Their church family has supported each other during sickness, health, challenging and joyful times.
Peggy’s caregivers have also become a significant and loving part of her family including Phyu Phyu Mon and Nan Dar Aye. The family appreciates Kindred Hospice of Oxford being there for support and care.
A service to celebrate Peggy’s life will be Wednesday, July 25, at 3:00 p.m., at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Dr.
