Pearl Marie Wetzel, August 5, 1921 – March 29, 2017.
After 95 celebrated years of life, Pearlie Marie Wetzel, of Belton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 in a Temple hospital. Pearl was born on August 5, 1921 in Crowley, Louisiana, one of nine children to parents, William Jack Kibodeaux and Ophelia Laughlin. She married Roy Wetzel on March 18, 1955 in Orange, Texas. Together, they raised a blended family of four daughters and a son.
Pearl will be eternally cherished and missed by her family. Most of her life, she was a homemaker and will be remembered as a perfect wife as well as a magnificent mother and grandmother. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed making quilts with her friends at the Belton Senior Center, where she and her husband were members. Pearl was proud of her Cajun heritage and passed it on to her family. She was a remarkable Cajun chef, best known for her gumbo and jambalaya. Pearl was known as the Cajun Queen during her stay at Creekside Terrace Rehabilitation Center and could always be seen wearing her favorite string of pearls. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Belton.
Pearl Wetzel was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years on February 25, 2012 as well as six brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children-Lumen L. Wetzel and his wife, Freida, of Troy; Mertie Marie Williams of Temple; Diane Blight Stanford and her husband, Bill, of Belton; Brenda Blight Basore and her husband, David, of Pflugerville; Phyllis Wetzel Woljevach and her husband, Ron, of Temple; one brother, Johnny Kibodeaux, of Vinton, LA; one sister, Jane Kibodeaux Bergeron, of West Orange; ten grandchildren-Lisa Stanford-Sortor, Paula Stanford, Suzanne Furnace, Jeff Wetzel, Teri Chandler, Misty Wetzel, Denise Basore, John Basore, James Mesecke, Clinton Mesecke; 21 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
