Pearl Lillie (Johnson) Shaffer 96, of Kingwood passed away Monday, June 17, 2013 at Windy Hill, Kingwood. She was born December 24, 1916 in Cove Run, Barbour County a daughter of the late Everett Ross and Amanda Lillie (Moats) Johnson. She was a member of the Kanes Creek United Methodist Church and their Women’s Group. She was a hard working cook, farmer, and gardener, sharing her bounty with family, friends, and neighbors. She graduated in 1938 from Grafton High School. Pearl worked during wartime at Arthurdale in the airplane factory, then as a school cook at Manown and at Kingwood Elementary before retiring.
She is survived by: one son Charles E. Shaffer and Judith of Kingwood; one grandson Michael Shaffer and Shelley of Kingwood; one granddaughter Tammy Shaffer Kolar of Rivesville; five great-grandchildren Ashley Shaffer, Caitlyn Shaffer, Hannah Shaffer, Connor Kolar, and Acelyn Kolar; two nephews Calvin Johnson and Barbara, and Larry Dillon, all of Grafton. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty three years, Charles Densel Shaffer in 2001; two brothers Holly and Hugh Johnson; and one sister Russia Dillon.
