Paulette Mignon Moody was affectionately named after her mother’s sister, Mignon Lee Usher. Paulette was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 27, 1942, the older of 2 girls, to Emerson E. Moody, retired Navy veteran, Co-op real estate mogul, “Outstanding Business Executive” and loving and supportive Evangeline D. Moody, homemaker.

Paulette attended Hyde Park High School in Chicago, Illinois and went on to graduate from Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio with her BA Degree in Special Education. There, she pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. After graduating, she became a beloved teacher with the Chicago Public School system and pledged yet another sorority for teachers, Phi Delta Kappa. Paulette retired from CPS in 2000 after 30+ years of service.

She married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Adams, shortly after college. That union did not produce any children, but Paulette was blessed to raise, cherish and love on her younger sister’s daughter, and her name sake, Mignon Paulette Brooks, who so affectionately called her “Mama”.

Paulette believed and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was always found reading/studying the word of God daily. She was a member of Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church for several years and then, New Gresham U.M. Church, where she met and later married, R.D. Roberson. After moving with her parents to South Holland, Illinois in 2001, she joined Lorimer Baptist Church for several years and finally rested with First Reform Church of South Holland.

Not only was Paulette a faithful servant to God, she was a servant to many different groups and organizations in her lifetime, but the one organization that she so lovingly cherished with her niece/daughter was Lily of the Valley Chapter #802 and Rebecca Chapter #812A under Electa Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star. The two of them enjoyed each other’s company on many trips and performing charitable works for the community. Aside from the enjoyment with Mignon, Paulette doted on her “only grandson”, her grand-nephew, Caleb. Every weekend and every summer, whatever Caleb wanted to do or go, they did it together. She taught him everything she knew (. . .  and he taught her a thing or two as well!) The last known organization that Paulette belonged to was for her pleasure only, because it was for other like-minded, Christian, mature socialites like herself . . . the “Red Hats”. The comradery she had with these women was so refreshing for a care-free spirit like Paulette.

Her niece/daughter, Mignon, was notified of her illness in early 2019, and her and her family came to live with and care for Paulette until God decided it was time for her to come home at 10:54pm on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at the age of 78 years old.

Paulette was preceded in death by her parents Emerson and Evangeline Moody, her sister Pamela (Clifford) Brooks and 1st husband, Kenneth Adams.

She leaves to mourn her niece/daughter Mignon Paulette (Paul) Brooks-Covington, her nephew Lamborghini A. Harris, 2 grand-nieces/granddaughters Ebone’ Mignon Brooks-Allen and Autumn R. Anderson, 2 grand-nephews/grandson Caleb J. Anderson and Lamborghini Harris Jr. and 1 great grand-niece/granddaughter, Nylah Mignon Anderson-McKnight, 3 god-daughters, Regina (Michael) Betton-Evans, Sherrie L. Baines, Stacey (Keith) Johnson and a host of beloved students, Sorors, SiStars, cousins, and friends.
