Paula M. Ganser of the Wyatt Community in Harrison County died on January 16, 2019, at the Tygart Genesis Center in Fairmont as a result of complications form leukemia. She was 83.
Paula was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the first of two children of Paul Ganser and Helen Weidner Ganser. Her brother, F. Rodman Ganser of Midlothian Virginia, survives as the last member of her immediate family. Neither Paula nor Rod had children. Paula was trained as a classical pianist and received a degree from the Philadelphia Conservatory of Music (now The University of the Arts). Most of her career was spent teaching piano, and she was selected to study under accomplished pianists to further her artistic expertise. Paula was also an accomplished athlete, and spent much of her spare time hiking and climbing in wilderness areas, as well as competing in organized sports such as tennis. After retiring in 2002, Paula moved to a farm near Wyatt with her business partner, Judy Roylance. Together they operated a Bed and Breakfast and conducted spiritual and regenerative retreats on their property.
Paula loved animals and was an advocate for fair treatment of both domestic and free-range animals. She maintained her property as a sanctuary for local fauna, and supported habitat for birds and other native species.
Paula donated her body to the WVU Medical School and requested that her ashes be scattered on her beloved farm.
