Paula Ann McRoberts, 75
Paula Ann McRoberts passed away on August 17, 2021. She was born June 27, 1946, in Marion, Indiana to Leo and Delores McAvoy. A former resident of South Bend, Indiana for 32 years, and a resident of Okeechobee since 2006. She loved to cross stitch, make wreaths, crochet, read and she absolutely loved cats. She fed all of the stray cats in the neighborhood and adopted as many of them as she could. As a child, she had two dreams for herself; the first was to become a wife and mother, and the second was to be a nurse. She fulfilled her greatest dreams in life and even got the little girl that she so desperately wanted.
She received her LPN license while working a full-time job, and as a newly divorced mother. She was extremely proud of this accomplishment; being able to provide for her son on her own. She met Jay McRoberts on May 31, 1969, and they fell head-over-heels in love and eloped nine days later on June 9, 1969 with her young son, Michael by their side asking them “are we married yet?” On March 18, 1970, her “golden” son, James Christopher was born on his father’s birthday. She was a very loving and devoted wife and mother as well as a very talented and caring nurse.
Mrs. McRoberts was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Delores McAvoy; and brother, Richard McAvoy.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, James “Jay” McRoberts; sons, Michael Eugene McRoberts (Tamera) and James Christopher McRoberts (Kathie); daughter, Ja-Ann Marie Collins (Heath); 11 grandchildren, Brianna L. Chalman (Jason), Brittany M. Baker (Evan), Bryant H. Aters (Dalane), Isabella K. Collins, James “Codey” McRoberts, Daniel “Tyler”McRoberts, Michael L. McRoberts, James P. McRoberts, Stephanie A. Celmer (Steven), David McRoberts (Beth), Dakota Wolfe; 8 great-grandchildren, Alayna Aters, Emelia Aters, Anne McRoberts, Zoe McRoberts, Jasmine McRoberts, Dominic Foust, Johnathan Celmer, Lucas Celmer; and another great-grandson, baby Aters on the way.
