On April 6, 2021 the Lord dispatched his Holy Angels to escort Mr. Paul Williams, 99, formerly of 316 Norwood St., from his Earthly to his Heavenly Home.

Most of Mr. Williams’ friends, have always referred to him as “Mr. Paul”.  Mr. Paul was born on July 8, 1922 in Apalache, GA, approximately 45 miles East of Atlanta.  He was the only child born to the union of the late Guy Williams and Julia Ward Williams.

Mr. Paul lived most of his very young years with his grandfather and grandmother, Gabe Ward and Fannie Swift Ward in Alabama.  While living in Alabama, he attended one of the State established segregated elementary schools for negro children for several years.

Upon moving back to Apalache, GA at the age of 13, Mr. Paul joined the church, which his parents attended for many years, Green Valley Baptist Church. There he developed a strong faith and belief in God, which he maintained until his death.

In his younger days, most of the families who were slave descendants were share croppers.  As a result, Mr. Paul spent many of his young adult years assisting his family with working their family farm.

In 1967, Mr. Paul relocated to Raleigh, NC. Upon his relocation, he has worked for several local businesses, which included K&W Cafeteria, Creekside Seafood Restaurant, Cross Poultry Chicken Processing Plant and Peden Steel Welding Company, to name a few.

Mr.

In addition to his, father and mother, and grandfather and grandmother, whom he loved dearly, Mr. Paul was preceded in death by the love of his life, his life partner, Leola Mooney of Raleigh on October 7, 2008; four aunts: Ida, Adell, Idell and Liza and three uncles: Parker, Will and Gabe Ward, all of Apalache, GA.

Though Mr. Paul was preceded in death by all of his close family members, he has made many friends along his highway of life.  He will be missed by many Raleigh friends, but especially missed by those who played a key role in in his day-to-day care over the years.
