Paul William Maas, son of Harold and Pauline (Hinrichs) Maas was born October 1, 1953 at Fort Dodge Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He died November 19, 2021 at his home in rural Palmer, Iowa at the age of 68 years. Paul was baptized and confirmed at St.
Paul attended Palmer Consolidated School where he graduated in 1972. Shortly after, he began working for H&W Lumber, then R&J Lumber, and eventually Manson and Pocahontas Lumber. Paul could always be counted on to provide a friendly face at the lumber counter. He took great pride in helping customers at the lumberyard until his retirement in 2018. Paul lived on the family farm right up to his death, living in only one house his entire life. He took over the farm from his father in 1984 and operated the farm until 1998 when he retired from farming. Paul raised sheep and cattle for the majority of his time on the farm. He enjoyed going to cattle shows with his sons and helping other local families at the fair.
Paul served for many years on the Palmer Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed helping with department fundraisers and other activities.
Preceding Paul in death are his parents, sister Charlene Samuelson, and brother-in-law Curt Samuelson.
Survivors include his children and grandchildren: Chad and Courtney Maas and children Raegan, Grant, and Grady of Wayne, Nebraska; Kyle and April Maas and children Brynlee, Brecken, and Brenna of Duncombe, Iowa. Paul is also survived by sister Judy Samuelson (Curt), brother-in-law Myrv (Charlene) Samuelson, and uncle Eimo (Pat) Hinrichs along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
