Paul Richard Gritten, 76, of West Lafayette, Indiana, passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022.
Paul was born on October 14, 1945, to Charlie and Betty Gritten. He grew up in Reynolds, Indiana. Paul graduated from North White High School in 1964. He would tell you that he had an idyllic childhood growing up there. He loved his hot rods and going fast. He and his friends ran around town like they owned it. He always said that his childhood was like the movie the “Christmas Story”.
Paul graduated from Hyles-Anderson College with a theology degree. He became a minister, planted several churches, and had a deep faith in Christ.
He married Linda (Hazelgrove/Greene) Gritten June 14, 1986.
Paul was an entrepreneur at heart. Over the years he owned several businesses and enjoyed the work involved in watching ideas and opportunities take shape. In his later years, Paul loved driving a school bus and couldn’t wait to see the kids each day and enjoy conversation with his fellow school bus drivers.
Paul loved being surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was especially fond of reminiscing about old stories and listening to his favorite old classic songs from his youth. He may have told you a story a time or two, but he didn’t care because telling stories made him laugh. He also loved being on the water with family and friends.
Paul is survived by his wife Linda; sons Duane (Schonda) Gritten, Jason (Robin) Gritten, Matthew (Michelle) Gritten, Benjamin (fiancé Allyson) Gritten, Troy (Tara) Greene and Brad (partner Michelle Brown) Greene. His grandchildren Ridge (Karson) Gritten, Baylie (fiancé Joel) Gritten, Brielle Gritten, Jacob Gritten, Sadie Gritten, Maxwell Gritten, Taylor Greene, Cameron Greene, Beth Greene, Sally Greene, Bryson, Ryder and Rylee Marmolijo, Cody Mattos, Jessica Ebert, Shane Armes, Jaylynn and Nathan Greene, as well as his brothers Donald (Jan) Gritten, Norman (Cathryn) Gritten, sister Vera (Darrell) Largen, Uncle Hugh (Linda) Davis, and mother-in-law Camilla (Hamming) Hazelgrove. He is also survived by nephews, nieces, family, and friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents Betty and Charlie Gritten, and father-in-law Charles Hazelgrove.
